Ball captured 8 British Amateur Championships, at the time considered a major, making him the winningest player for a single Major Championship. He also won the Open and the Amateur in the same year, a feat only Jones has been able to match, and won his 9 Majors over the course of 24 years, a period of time mirrored only by the great Jack Nicklaus.
