Walter Hagen (1892-1969)

From Rochester New York, was on the forefront of the development of the modern day golf professional. Said Gene Sarazen, "All the professionals ... should say a silent thanks to Walter Hagen each time they stretch a check between their fingers. It was Walter who made professional golf what it is." He accumulated 45 PGA tour wins, including 11 majors, third only behind Nicklaus (18) and Woods (13), who each had the advantage of a fourth tournament, the Masters.
